How did you join Burger Logistic Services and what were your responsibilities there?
A former colleague of mine, Sander Jongeneel, with whom I used to work at van der Helm -Hudig, had approached me when he was Operations Director at Burger Logistic Services. He said Burger Logistic Services was looking for people who could fill multiple positions and were available quickly. The demand corresponded well with Logistic Nomad’s flexible nature. Logistic Nomad is highly adaptable, versatile and immediately available. That aligned well, and that’s how things got started. The work I did there was quite diverse. From participating operationally in the import department to my contribution of improving and making the system more efficient. A key component that emerged in this was the introduction of paperless working. At the same time, I also had to look critically at the computer system they had just started using. How can they make the best use of this system and are any adjustments needed? Through my work on the operational side, I gained practical insight into where inefficiencies lie and what improvements can be made. You can then relay this feedback at a strategic level and collaborate with management, the IT department and the operations team to develop solutions.
Furthermore, I was also able to contribute to the recruitment of new staff. Since I am also employable for recruitment work this connected very nicely. Contact with recruitment agencies, as well as recruiting and selecting suitable candidates and conducting job interviews were important parts of this. In the last period, I was responsible for customer analyses of import clients and had the opportunity to contribute to the new website and social media. To conclude: a broad range of activities!
How did the collaboration go and what was your biggest challenge?
I have found the cooperation to be very pleasant. It was a small but very ambitious team. That ambition is very motivating. My biggest challenge during this process was primarily balancing my attention across different tasks while remaining agile and quick to adapt. Sometimes, I am hired for a specific role within a department, but in this assignment, it was much more than that. Despite having to constantly shift gears, I got a huge dose of energy from this process. The fact that everyone is working together to take things to the next level, expand the team and make real, measurable improvements is very rewarding!
In addition, I found it truly special to be part of a company that has been established in the logistics industry since 1805. You can truly say ‘old meets new’ here and it is beautiful to see.
